The Brookstone HOA 2008 budget includes a line item of $1500 for the community web site. The 2007 budget amount for the same item was $1000. There is no indication as to why the increase was necessary.
The 2007 year to date expenses for the website are only $250. According to the October 8 meeting minutes, the $250 was a reimbursement to Danny Sanchez for undisclosed expenses. The $750 that wasn’t spent this year will become part of the reserve next year.
Why are the website expenses so high? The yearly cost for registering the domain name brookstoneweb.org is only $9.99. The yearly cost for hosting this website would be $99 per year through Dreamhost if this were the only site hosted. There are many sites already on this account, so the actual cost for hosting is zero.
There are many technically savvy people in this community. I’m sure if the HOA Board were to appeal to it’s members, one of them would volunteer these services. This $1500 line item could easily be eliminated from the budget.
